Introduction
An analysis of the change in foot traffic to beauty salons and spas across the United States during the Holiday season reveals some interesting trends. Vermont had the highest percentage increase with a 51% jump from last year, followed by Rhode Island at 50%. New Hampshire also fared well with a 23% increase. Other states in the top five with significant increases include Wyoming (18%), Connecticut (17%), and South Carolina (14%).
The Northeast region overall experienced an above-average increase compared to other areas in the country, likely due to its dense population and proximity to urban areas, giving those in the region easy access to beauty salons and spas. On the other end of the spectrum, Alaska had the lowest jump with a 33% decrease. South Dakota and Idaho also experienced major drops at 16%. Missouri (-2%) and Mississippi (-3%) rounded out the bottom three states on this list.
Overall, many regions were able to capitalize on increased foot traffic due to the holiday shopping season. Beauty salons and spas provided much-needed rest for many people overstressed from holiday shopping or just needing time away from their regular routines. This was especially true for states such as New York (+12%) where people often have more disposable income than average Americans, resulting in greater demand for beauty services like manicures, pedicures, facials, and massages during this time of year.
These findings demonstrate that beauty salons and spas continue to be an important part of many people’s lives during the holiday season even amidst challenging times. It shows that for those living near these types of services or who have enough money available, these establishments provide an escape from everyday life – even if just temporarily – that can make all the difference when things are stressful or overwhelming. With more extensive data collection along with qualitative research such as surveys or interviews, it would be possible to identify further trends around how people interact with beauty salons and spas during the Holiday season as well as their motivations behind using them throughout different times of the year.
