Introduction

Each state has its own sales tax on a vehicle, resulting in often unexpected higher costs than the listed selling prices and turning into a nasty surprise for many buyers. For instance, if you purchase a car for US$10,000 in a state where the sales tax is 10%, you would have to pay an additional US$1,000 on top of other costs such as car insurance or DMV registration fees.
