Introduction
The United States has seen a steady increase in population over the last few decades, with the total population currently estimated to be more than 331 million people. The rate of growth has been higher for some states than others; for example, Nevada’s population increased by 15% between 2010 and 2020, while New York’s grew by only 4.2%. In general, the western and southern parts of the country have seen greater rates of growth due to factors such as climate and economic opportunities. Additionally, immigration is playing an ever-larger role in US population growth; since 1960, immigrants have accounted for almost half of the nation’s overall population increase. This influx of foreign-born individuals can bring new skills and financial resources that can benefit all Americans. A larger population boosts consumption demand which helps drive economic growth and can create more jobs for American citizens. Continued population growth in the United States will be essential to achieving success in a global economy.
