Introduction
In the United States, the male to female ratio is roughly 97 males for 100 females. This means that in most areas of the country, there are slightly more females than males. However, this ratio varies considerably depending on location and age group. In certain states, such as California, there are actually slightly more females than males living within the state’s borders. The gender gap becomes even more pronounced when examining minority populations; for example, black and Hispanic populations tend to have significantly lower male-to-female ratios than white or Asian populations do. Additionally, among individuals aged 25–44, women also outnumber men. Despite this difference between genders in population overall, recent studies demonstrate that there is only a small gender gap when it comes to labor force participation rate. Therefore, while the overall population might not reflect perfect parity between genders in terms of actual numbers or percentages in some regions and age groups or minority communities, the labor force and active workforce appears to be relatively equal across gender lines in the United States today.
