Introduction

Natural gas (simply called “gas”), a naturally occurring mixture of hydrocarbons primarily composed of methane and other alkanes, is a fossil fuel and non-renewable energy source. It can be dangerous to humans as the colorless and odorless gas is deadly. This is the reason why an odorizer is usually added to alert people to potential leaks. It is formed when organic matter decomposes under immense heat and pressure under the earth’s surface for millions of years.

Producing natural gas can be a lucrative endeavor for countries, as the price of gas increases as the supply dwindles while the demand increases.
