Introduction
Cancer is a major health concern in the United States, with millions of people living with some form of cancer and thousands of new cases being diagnosed every day. According to the American Cancer Society, more than 1.9 million Americans were diagnosed with cancer in 2022, and over 600,000 people died from it. The most commonly diagnosed cancers include breast cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, and colorectal cancer. Unfortunately, the rates of all four cancers have been increasing over the past few decades due to lifestyle factors such as smoking and obesity. Despite recent advances in detection methods and treatments for specific types of cancers, much work remains to be done in order to reduce the burden of this disease on individuals and society as a whole. Programs that focus on prevention by promoting healthy lifestyles can help reduce risk factors that lead to higher cancer rates, while more research is being conducted to improve treatment outcomes for those who are already afflicted by this devastating disease.
