Introduction
Non-extradition states are states that do not extradite their citizens to other countries. Non-extradition states have adopted laws that forbid extradition of its citizens, protecting them from being extradited to foreign nations if they are accused of a crime or face criminal prosecution. This means that if a citizen commits an offense or is accused of a crime in another country but has committed no offense in his or her home country, their government will not extradite them; even if requested by the foreign jurisdiction. The UCEA is one such law allows for non-extradition states to enter into agreements with other nations in order to protect its citizens from extradition. It provides for cooperation amongst signatory countries which includes sharing information on criminal activity and strengthening border control measures. Additionally, it calls for the establishment of formal extradition proceedings between member states when necessary. The UCEA ensures that both non-extradition states and other signatory countries can work together to ensure the safety of their citizens while promoting economic growth and security throughout Central America.
