Introduction
The Republican Party is one of two major political parties within the United States, which has a two-party governing system. The other party alongside the Republican Party is the Democratic Party, and together they facilitate the polity of the United States. The values that are specific to the Republican ideology unique are the importance of the nuclear family structures at home, the right to bear arms and self-defense, and the indelible right to a broad range of religious liberties.
People who have voted Republican or who are members of the Republican Party tend to be more conservative than people who are Democrats. Conservative people very often place a high value on the continuation of inherited traditions and customs, and they tend to be less open to new exploration of ideas and innovation.
Regarding policy, a few commonalities among Republican voters is that they usually tend to favor small government instead of intrusive bureaucracy on principle, and many Republicans are religious and practice Christianity, though the religious diversity among the members of the party is often more diverse than what many Americans who are Democrats might assume from the outside.
