Introduction

Countries send aid, usually in the form of money, to each other for one of two reasons: humanitarian aid and military aid. Usually, that aid is given to countries that are developing or serve a strategic interest of the country who is providing the aid. In the United States, foregin aid must be sent with the approval of Congress and is done through the passage of law.

The United States gives aid to other countries through several different governmental entities, including the departments of treasury, defense, and state. Moreover, the United States sends foreign aid to nearly every country, distributing around $46 billion in the 2020 fiscal year.

Some however in the U.S. and elsewhere have called for the providing aid to other nations to stop and for the government to focus on their own populations at home, as many are experiencing dire living conditions, decreased life expectancy, poor housing opportunities, and inflated economies.
