Jonathon Tate Reeves is Born

Reeves is the eldest son of Terry Reeves and Dianne Peeples.

1996

Reeves graduates college

After high school, Reeves attends Millsaps College, where he pursued a degree in economics and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity.

2001

Reeves gets married

Tate Reeves and Elee Williams get married; the two then go on to have three daughters.

2019

Reeves is involved in a racist controversy

Fraternity photos from his time at Millsaps College surfaced showing fraternity members in blackface and Confederate uniforms, however, it is unclear if Reeves was personally involved.

2004

Elected State Treasurer

After a runoff primary, Reeves is elected state treasurer, becoming the youngest statewide elected official in the state’s history.

2007

Reelected State Treasurer

Reeves is elected to a second term as State Treasurer, winning around 60% of the vote.

2012

Elected Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi

Winning over 80% of the vote, and without a Democrat opponent, Reeves is elected lieutenant governor.

2020

Becomes Governor of Mississippi

Touting the support of then-President Donald Trump, Reeves is elected Governor of Mississippi.

Taxation

Reeves has been in staunch opposition to raising taxes. During his time as lieutenant governor and president of the Mississippi Senate, Reeves opposed raising the gas tax and as governor has pushed to eliminate the state’s personal income tax.

Following the lead of Donald Trump, Reeves has favored a “Patriotic Education Fund” and has supported bonuses for high-performing teachers and improving schools.
