FanX Comic & Pop Culture Convention will hold a spring show March 11-13, 2027, and a second show in September 2027 at the Salt Palace Convention Center. The venue begins a three-year renovation in 2027, limiting the convention's floor plan to about 50% of its normal space.
Why it matters
The renovations under the Sports, Entertainment, and Culture Convention District reshape how large events are hosted in Salt Lake City. Holding two conventions a year is intended to offset the reduced capacity during construction.
FanX previously held two conventions per year from 2014-2017 and in 2019, a pattern it is returning to for 2027. Officials predict the March 2027 show will sell out, but the source does not report projected attendance or revenue figures.
The players
FanX Comic & Pop Culture Convention
FanX is a long-running comic and pop culture convention that has previously held two shows per year.
Smith Entertainment Group
Smith Entertainment Group is the company spearheading the Sports, Entertainment, and Culture Convention District that includes the Salt Palace renovations.
The details
A loyalty launch sale for the March 2027 show opens Wednesday, November 4, at noon Mountain time, offering the lowest-priced tickets. Celebrity guest announcements for both shows will follow the ticket sale, and the convention will move to the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy starting in 2028.
Timeline
Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at noon Mountain time: loyalty launch ticket sale opens for the March 2027 show.
March 11-13, 2027: spring FanX convention at the Salt Palace.
2027: Salt Palace renovations begin and the venue closes for three years.
September 2027: second FanX convention planned.
2028: convention moves to the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy.
Seasonal Patterns
FanX's return to two shows a year repeats its 2014-2017 and 2019 schedule, a pattern set before the venue closure. The district's Salt Palace phase is the reason the convention is being split into two smaller-footprint events in 2027.
Fans who want the lowest-priced March 2027 tickets will need to buy during the loyalty launch sale opening Wednesday at noon Mountain time. Attendees should plan for the Salt Palace's reduced floor plan and for the venue move to Sandy beginning in 2028.
The takeaway
Fans planning around FanX should track the November 4 loyalty sale and the 2028 move to Sandy, since both change where and how the convention is attended. The two-show schedule may also offer more frequent access to the event during the renovation period.
What happens next
The loyalty launch ticket sale opens Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at noon Mountain time, and celebrity guest announcements will follow for both 2027 shows.
