Do viral social media disputes change your opinion of a business or artist?

Artist Bliss Kolb has received 100 commission requests for his singing bird sculptures following a viral social media post. The surge in interest stems from a visit by Kelly Clarkson to a Brooklyn store where one of his pieces was displayed.

Why it matters

The increased attention highlights how social media exposure from public figures can rapidly transform a niche artist's market. This trend bridges local retail experiences with broader consumer interest in collectible kinetic art.

Bliss Kolb sculptures are priced between $4,000 and $15,000. An original singing bird sculpture remains listed at the Art of Play store for $15 million.

Culture Shift

This phenomenon follows the pattern set by the viral social media influencer economy, where celebrity endorsements instantly scale demand for artisan goods. It illustrates a departure from traditional gallery-based marketing toward rapid, digital-first consumer discovery.

Prospective buyers should be prepared for potential waitlists as the artist manages the influx of 100 new commission requests. Pricing for future pieces remains significantly more accessible than the $15 million list price of the original shop display.

The takeaway

Art enthusiasts should keep in mind that celebrity endorsements can lead to long-term backlogs for independent artists. Those interested in collecting niche sculptures may need to prioritize patience when commissions go viral.
