Paragon Theaters is set to open a new cinema at Naples' Mercato shopping center in 2027. The project will take over the space formerly occupied by Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, which closed its doors in September 2026.
Why it matters
This expansion brings a new entertainment anchor to the popular Mercato district, filling a vacancy left by the previous operator. The arrival of the cinema aims to restore theater-going options for the local community.
The new 33,700-square-foot theater is part of an expansion for the chain, which operates six locations across Florida, Virginia, and North Carolina. The venue will feature two Axis15 Extreme premium large-format screens.
The players
Paragon Theaters
Founded in 2009, this entertainment company operates cinema locations across Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia.
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema
This national cinema chain previously operated the theater space at Mercato for 2.5 years before its closure in September 2026.
The details
The upcoming cinema will offer amenities such as heated recliners and an in-house pizza concept for guests. Additionally, the company plans to offer consistent pricing structures found at its other locations, including the popular $5 Ticket Tuesdays promotion.
Timeline
September 9, 2026: The previous cinema at the site permanently closed its doors.
October 21, 2026: Paragon Theaters officially announced the new location at Mercato.
2027: The new Paragon Theaters location is scheduled to open to the public.
Market Landscape
This move reflects a broader industry pattern where developers prioritize established operators to maintain foot traffic in luxury shopping centers. It positions Paragon Theaters to capture the audience previously held by a major national competitor in the Naples market.
Residents can look forward to a new entertainment venue featuring premium amenities like heated recliners and specific value pricing. Those interested in potential employment may monitor hiring announcements as the 2027 opening date approaches.
The takeaway
This development serves as a reminder of the rapid turnover common in luxury commercial retail spaces. Consumers should check venue websites regularly for updates on local cinema programming and ticket promotions.
