Everett and Jones Barbeque has opened a restaurant at 300 Jefferson St. in Fisherman's Wharf, serving smoked brisket, ribs, chicken and links along with collard greens and baked beans. The restaurant occupies a two-story, 4,363-square-foot space that had been empty since Lou's Fish Shack closed in 2020.

Why it matters

The opening returns the chain to San Francisco after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake damaged its earlier location there. It also fills a long-vacant waterfront storefront and adds to a stretch of Jefferson Street that is drawing new restaurant concepts.

The restaurant occupies a 4,363-square-foot two-story space under a 10-year Port Commission lease approved in February 2025, with two five-year extension options. Menu items include smoked brisket, ribs, chicken, links, collard greens and baked beans, with beer and wine at the bar.

The players

Everett and Jones Barbeque

A family-run barbecue chain founded in Oakland in 1973 that has grown to multiple Bay Area locations.

San Francisco Port Commission

The city body that oversees the Port of San Francisco's waterfront property and approved the restaurant's lease.

Starbird Chicken

A chicken restaurant concept planning a location at 333 Jefferson St. for summer 2027.

The details

R3 Builders updated the dining room and built a new kitchen before the restaurant opened. The business traces its roots to 1973, when Dorothy Everett opened the first location in Oakland with a $700 loan from a friend, and it has since operated as many as six locations, including Jack London Square and the Laurel District in Oakland and sites in Hayward and Berkeley. Live music is planned for the San Francisco restaurant, which operates 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.

Local Food Landscape

Raising Cane's opened its first San Francisco location nearby in September, and Starbird Chicken plans a 333 Jefferson St. restaurant for summer 2027. The Everett and Jones opening extends a run of new chain and regional barbecue and chicken concepts clustering along the Fisherman's Wharf corridor.

Fisherman's Wharf visitors and San Francisco diners now have a new option for smoked brisket, ribs and chicken on Jefferson Street. The restaurant's 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday hours and planned live music set the terms for when residents can visit.

The takeaway

A long-empty waterfront space is now occupied, and the family behind the chain is returning to San Francisco after nearly four decades. Diners heading to Fisherman's Wharf have a new barbecue option on Jefferson Street.
