Are you planning to take advantage of seasonal travel promotions for your upcoming trips?

Amtrak has launched a limited-time booking promotion that provides free companion travel for those booking a shared Roomette or Accessible Room. The offer is valid for most long-distance rail routes across the United States.

Why it matters

This promotion allows passengers to reduce the cost of premium rail travel by enabling two individuals to share a single room for the price of one. It serves as an incentive for rail travel during the upcoming winter season.

The travel window spans 92 days, though it is subject to 25 blackout days. Cancellations made 120 days or fewer before departure trigger a 25% fee, meaning 75% of the fare is refundable.

The players

Amtrak

Amtrak is the government-supported rail service provider that operates an extensive network of long-distance routes throughout the United States.

The details

Passengers must book a single reservation for two people and use the promo code C102 at the time of purchase. The promotion is available on all long-distance trains with the exception of the southbound Auto Train.

October 20, 2026: Booking window opened for the promotion.
October 31, 2026: The booking window closes for passengers.
November 1, 2026: The eligible travel window begins.
January 31, 2027: The travel window ends.

Travel Outlook

This promotion aligns with Amtrak's seasonal yield management strategies used to balance train occupancy during lower-demand periods. It follows a recurring trend of incentivizing premium accommodation bookings to fill available inventory.

Travelers must book at least one day before departure and ensure their travel dates do not fall on one of the 25 identified blackout days. Because the offer excludes bookings made with Amtrak Guest Rewards points, travelers should compare cash fares versus point redemption values before purchasing.

The takeaway

Travelers planning a winter trip should check the list of blackout dates to ensure their preferred itinerary qualifies for the free companion fare. Always confirm the final price at checkout to ensure the promo code C102 was correctly applied to the booking.
