A Lotto 6/49 ticket sold in Ontario matched six of six numbers in Wednesday night's draw, winning the $5 million classic jackpot. In the gold ball draw, a $1 million guaranteed prize went to a ticket sold in British Columbia.
Why it matters
The results show that the classic jackpot is fixed at $5 million, so the gold ball jackpot rollover is the main driver of the larger prize pool for Canadian players. Ticket holders in Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec were among the winners of the night's top prizes.
The winning classic numbers were 01, 03, 22, 28, 36, 41 with bonus 48, and the gold ball number was 05426542-01. The gold ball jackpot is projected to reach $36 million for Saturday's draw, while the classic jackpot stays at its fixed $5 million.

Saturday: Next Lotto 6/49 draw, with the gold ball jackpot projected at $36 million.
Roadmap
The gold ball format in Lotto 6/49 has a guaranteed $1 million prize when a white ball is drawn, which keeps the rolling jackpot building between wins. The classic jackpot's fixed $5 million amount stands apart from that rolling structure.

The takeaway
The classic Lotto 6/49 jackpot is fixed at $5 million, while the gold ball jackpot rolls over, so players should compare the two draws before choosing how to play.
