SEGA Amusements International has announced House of the Dead Reawakened, a two-player VR arcade attraction. The attraction will make its global debut later this month at IAAPA Orlando.

Why it matters

The attraction brings the long-running House of the Dead arcade franchise into immersive VR form for location-based entertainment operators. Its hardware focus responds to operators' most common complaints about VR cable durability.

The HMD cable harness has been load-tested to 286 lbs (130 kg), with an 85-inch attract screen and 43-inch dual player screen, backed by a twelve-month hardware warranty. The attraction includes three missions playable solo or in two-player co-op.

The players

SEGA Amusements International

The arcade division of Japanese video game company SEGA, which develops and operates location-based entertainment and has produced the House of the Dead arcade series since its 1997 debut.

DPVR

A VR hardware original equipment manufacturer with which SEGA developed a custom armored HMD cable harness for the attraction.

The details

Built in a theme park-styled gothic manor cabinet, the attraction uses Unreal Engine 5 with commercial-grade VR headsets and controllers featuring tactile haptic recoil and magnetic autocalibration. Players use a range of weapons to eliminate hordes of creatures across three missions, and controllers require no manual setup between plays.

Timeline

  1. Later this month (November 2026): global debut at IAAPA Orlando, stands S4602 and S4803.

  2. Next year (2027): House of the Dead franchise 30th anniversary.

Roadmap

The attraction extends the House of the Dead arcade series, which has appeared in arcades since 1997 across five amusement titles plus spin-off movies and console games, into full VR ahead of its 30th anniversary next year. It reflects location-based entertainment operators' growing push toward immersive, attendant-free attractions.

Operators planning location-based entertainment upgrades can track the attraction's global debut at IAAPA Orlando later this month. The hardware's durability focus may matter to venues weighing VR installations against maintenance costs.

The takeaway

Hardware durability is becoming as important as content for location-based VR, since cable damage has been among operators' top complaints. Venues evaluating VR attractions should weigh maintenance and warranty terms alongside the experience itself.
