Are you looking forward to new Streets of Rage or Jet Set Radio games?
Sega Sammy's Q2 FY2027 earnings report lists new titles for the Streets of Rage, Jet Set Radio, and Golden Axe franchises. Sega first announced plans for these releases in February.
Why it matters
The listings signal renewed investment in franchises that have seen limited new releases in recent years. Fans of the series may see a return to content that has been dormant for well over a decade.
Sega Sammy's earnings report lists three franchises with upcoming titles, but only the Golden Axe entry is marked coming soon without a date or platform. The Golden Axe franchise has had no release since Beast Rider in 2008, while Streets of Rage 4 arrived in 2020.
The players
Sega Sammy
A Japanese entertainment company that owns the Sega brand and publishes video games and related media.
DotEmu
A French video game publisher that developed and released Streets of Rage 4 in 2020.
The details
The earnings report includes an animated Streets of Rage film among the listed titles, and a film adaptation of the franchise is in development. Sega also released a Golden Axe comedy series on Paramount Plus and the Shinobi title Art of Vengeance.
Timeline
2008: Golden Axe franchise's last release, Beast Rider.
2020: DotEmu releases Streets of Rage 4.
February: Sega first announces plans for the upcoming releases.
Q2 FY2027: Sega Sammy's earnings report lists the upcoming titles.
Roadmap
Sega's revival of its classic franchises follows the 2020 release of Streets of Rage 4 by DotEmu, which reintroduced the series after years of dormancy. The new listings suggest the company is extending that pattern to Jet Set Radio and Golden Axe.
Fans will need to watch for platform and release-date announcements, since the Golden Axe title has none yet. The Streets of Rage animated film has no release window in the listing either.
The takeaway
Franchise listings in an earnings report are an early signal rather than a confirmed release, so readers should wait for platform and date details before planning around them. Sega's pattern of reviving older series suggests more announcements may follow.
