Canon Updates EOS C400, C80 and C50 Firmware
Canon's new firmware adds multi-matrix support, expanded autofocus frame rates, and customisable controls to three cinema cameras.
Updated on Nov. 4, 2026 in Photography

Canon has released firmware updates for its EOS C400, EOS C80 and EOS C50 cinema cameras, introducing a range of feature enhancements. The updates are free to download from the Canon website.
Why it matters
The updates respond to customer feedback and evolving production needs, giving filmmakers greater control over exposure, focus and accessory compatibility without new hardware. Enhancements such as expanded stabilisation support for long lenses extend the practical working range of existing equipment.
Canon's notes list image stabilisation support for lenses above 1000mm and Slow & Fast autofocus at 72p through 96p on the EOS C400 and C80. The release does not report independent testing of these capabilities.
The players
Canon
Canon is a Japanese multinational corporation known for its cameras, imaging equipment and professional video products, including the Cinema EOS line.
The details
The firmware adds Black Level adjustment in Canon Log 2 and Log 3, audio output in Slow & Fast mode, and improved on-screen display of Base ISO and fan indicators. On the EOS C50, it enables compatible Canon Speedlite flash accessories through the Multi-Function Accessory Shoe, and it adds customisation options for RF lens buttons, camera control dials and assignable buttons across all three models.
Timeline
Canon announced the firmware updates on 4 November 2026.
The updates become free to download from December 2026.
Culture Shift
The update continues Canon's Cinema EOS strategy of adding features to installed bodies through firmware, a pattern that lets professional users extend camera lifespans instead of replacing equipment. It reflects the growing role of software in cinema camera capability.
Owners of the EOS C400, C80 and C50 can download the updates at no cost and use the new customisation options without buying new equipment. Filmmakers who shoot long telephoto work can now use image stabilisation with lenses exceeding 1000mm.
The takeaway
Software updates can meaningfully expand what existing cinema cameras do, so checking for firmware releases before buying new gear can save money. Owners should note the December 2026 download date.
What happens next
Canon's firmware updates become available to download free of charge from December 2026.
