Canon Unveils DM-E10D Digital Microphone

Canon announced the DM-E10D digital microphone and TC-N3 timer remote controller on November 4, 2026. Both products are scheduled to become available in December 2026.

Why it matters

The DM-E10D connects through Canon's Multi-function Shoe, which handles digital audio, power and camera control in one connection. The TC-N3 replaces the TC-80N3 timer remote with a redesigned interface.

The DM-E10D is Canon's smallest hotshoe microphone, measuring 53.7mm long and weighing about 59g, with a supercardioid pickup pattern. Both timer remotes use two AAA batteries and include a tripod socket, and the announcement did not state retail prices.

The players

Canon

Canon is a Japanese multinational corporation known for its cameras, lenses and imaging products, including its hotshoe accessories and timer remotes.

The details

The DM-E10D has a dedicated MENU button for adjusting the camera's sound recording settings. The TC-N3 adds a larger orange-backlit LCD, cross-key controls, and dedicated power and self-timer buttons, and can be programmed for start and end times, shooting intervals and long-exposure durations. A TC-E3 version of the timer remote is also available.

Timeline

  1. November 4, 2026: Canon announces the DM-E10D and TC-N3.

  2. December 2026: DM-E10D and TC-N3/TC-E3 become available.

Culture Shift

The TC-N3 succeeds the TC-80N3 timer remote, continuing Canon's effort to fold more dedicated shooting controls into its accessory line. The DM-E10D's single-connection design through the Multi-function Shoe reflects a broader move toward consolidating audio, power and camera control into one interface for hybrid photo and video creators.

Photographers and videographers can use the DM-E10D's single Multi-function Shoe connection to capture audio without separate cables or receivers. Timer remote users gain programmable start and end times and long-exposure controls once the TC-N3 ships in December 2026.

The takeaway

The DM-E10D and TC-N3 show that dedicated accessories are being built around the camera's own connection and control systems, so buyers should check compatibility with the Multi-function Shoe when planning purchases.
