Nikon SLM, PanOptimization Partner on Build Software
The collaboration embeds PanX simulation software into Nikon SLM Solutions' build preparation workflow for large-format metal additive manufacturing machines.
Updated on Nov. 3, 2026 in Manufacturing

Nikon SLM Solutions and PanOptimization LLC have announced a partnership to integrate PanX simulation software into Nikon SLM Solutions' build preparation workflow. The new PanX version includes a Nikon SLM Solutions integration that lets users load validated, parameter-specific templates for the company's machines, materials and process parameters.
Why it matters
Large-format additive manufacturing machines create demanding thermal conditions that grow harder to manage as build volumes, part dimensions and productivity increase. Unsuccessful builds can consume substantial machine time, material and post-processing capacity, making pre-build simulation and validated templates a practical priority.
The NXG XII 600, launched in 2020, is a Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion machine with twelve 1 kW lasers and a 600 × 600 × 600 mm build volume. The companies have not released figures on how much setup time or failed-build reduction the integration delivers.
The players
Nikon SLM Solutions
Nikon SLM Solutions is a Lübeck, Germany-based maker of metal additive manufacturing systems that builds laser powder bed fusion machines for industrial production.
PanOptimization LLC
PanOptimization LLC is a Pennsylvania-based company that develops PanX, a simulation software for predicting thermal behavior and optimizing build strategies in metal additive manufacturing.
The details
PanOptimization's PanX software now simulates large-format build jobs, and the integration lets engineers load validated Nikon SLM Solutions templates to cut redundant simulation setup. The workflow is intended to support build preparation for the NXG XII 600 and the forthcoming MACHX production platform, which Nikon SLM Solutions will unveil at Formnext.
Timeline
2020: The NXG XII 600 machine is launched.
November 17-20, 2026: PanOptimization exhibits at Formnext 2026 in Frankfurt, Germany, and Nikon SLM Solutions unveils MACHX in Hall 12, Booth D119.
Market Landscape
The collaboration sits within the PBF-LB segment, where multi-laser platforms such as the twelve-laser NXG XII 600 are being pushed toward larger builds and higher throughput. Pairing simulation with validated templates reflects an industry shift toward software-driven process control as machine productivity rises.
For manufacturers running large-format metal printers, the integration offers a route to fewer failed builds and less repeated simulation setup. Teams evaluating NXG XII 600 or MACHX capacity can plan for simulation-driven build preparation as part of their workflow.
The takeaway
Pre-build simulation paired with validated machine templates is becoming a core lever for reducing wasted machine time in large-format metal additive manufacturing. Manufacturers weighing new capacity should treat build preparation software as part of the production decision, not an afterthought.
What happens next
Nikon SLM Solutions will unveil its MACHX production platform at Formnext 2026 in Frankfurt, Germany, from November 17-20, 2026, in Hall 12, Booth D119.
