Why it matters
The monthly sales ranking gives buyers and dealers a clear view of which brands are gaining traction in a competitive market. Strong overall growth signals continued demand for new vehicles across the country.
Passenger-car sales reached 45 084 units, up 13.6% year on year, while light commercial vehicle sales totalled 13 689 units. Exports of new vehicles reached 38 117 units in the month, and dealer sales accounted for 78% of industry sales.

Roadmap
The October figures continue the monthly Naamsa reporting series that tracks South Africa's new-vehicle market. Year-on-year growth across total, passenger and commercial segments points to a market that has expanded over the same month a year earlier.
Strong sales of entry and mid-range models point to wide choice for buyers across price points. Dealer-led sales making up 78% of the market suggest most buyers will continue to purchase through dealerships.
The takeaway
Monthly brand rankings are a useful starting point when comparing models, but buyers should check current pricing and availability with individual dealers. Looking at several months of data gives a clearer picture of brand momentum than a single month.
