Live Poll

Is $100 a reasonable price to pay for parking at a major local sporting event?

A Milwaukee resident living near American Family Field is charging $100 for parking in her private driveway during the World Series. The owner, Kelly Neuman Burns, is significantly increasing her rates for the games.

Why it matters

The high price reflects the significant demand for parking near the stadium during major league events. The owner noted that rising costs for stadium concessions influenced her decision to adjust her pricing.

The driveway and garage property has a maximum capacity of five to six vehicles. The current event rate is $100, which is more than double the owner's typical $40 charge for parking.

Culture Shift

This practice highlights a growing shift where homeowners leverage proximity to major venues to adopt dynamic pricing strategies. It reflects a wider trend of residents commodifying private residential space to capitalize on large-scale public entertainment events.

Residents and fans attending games at American Family Field should expect private parking prices in the area to fluctuate based on demand. Visitors may need to budget significantly more for parking than they would during a standard regular-season game.

The takeaway

Homeowners in high-traffic stadium areas are increasingly treating their driveways as short-term assets during major sporting events. Drivers should remain aware that private parking rates near arenas are often set by individuals and can vary wildly from official city or stadium pricing.
