The Milwaukee Brewers have officially reached the 2026 World Series following a victory over the San Diego Padres in the National League Division Series. The team is now just four wins away from securing their first championship.
Why it matters
The Brewers success highlights a unique roster composition, as they reached the final despite having only one player with a $100 million contract compared to the Padres five. This performance underscores the effectiveness of their high-contact, discipline-focused offensive strategy.
In 2026, the Brewers scored the second-most runs in Major League Baseball despite hitting the second-fewest home runs. The Padres maintain a payroll $80 million higher than Milwaukee.

Season Trajectory
This World Series appearance alters the competitive balance of the 2026 Major League Baseball season standings by validating a small-market, contact-heavy roster model. It disrupts the traditional reliance on high-priced power hitters that dominates the current league landscape.
The Brewers advancement guarantees a World Series appearance for the Milwaukee franchise, moving them four wins away from a title. The team's successful contact-hitting approach continues to defy the league trend where 59 players currently hold contracts worth $100 million or more.
The takeaway
The Milwaukee Brewers run proves that a commitment to plate discipline and contact hitting can overcome significant payroll disparities in modern baseball. Fans and analysts alike are now looking to see if this strategy holds up during the high-stakes pressure of the upcoming championship.
