The Milwaukee Brewers have officially appointed Christian Yelich as the team's captain. This decision marks the first time in the organization's history that a player has worn a captain's C on his uniform.
Why it matters
The organization moved to appoint a captain to recognize Yelich for his leadership and extensive tenure since joining the club. The gesture was made with the approval of club legend Robin Yount.
Yelich joined the organization in January 2018 and has two years remaining on his contract after the 2026 season. The Brewers have reached the postseason eight times in the last nine years but have yet to win a World Series.
