NEP Americas, part of NEP Group, has expanded its production lineup with new scalable, IP-based flypack kits. The kits were tested and proven on two large international sporting events this summer.

Why it matters

Flypacks are used on remote productions where bringing a full mobile unit onsite is impractical. The kits offer the same capabilities as NEP's mobile units in a more portable form for customers worldwide.

The kits support 1080p, HDR, and 4K formats and are powered by NEP's Total Facility Control (TFC) broadcast control system. They connect to NEP's Dallas Datacenter, South Florida Production Hub and global hubs.

The players

NEP Americas

NEP Americas is the North American arm of NEP Group, a global provider of broadcast and production services for live events and media.

Riedel

Riedel is a German company that makes communications and networking products for broadcast and live-event production.

The details

The flypack kits can operate as independent systems, combine with each other, or pair with any NEP dynamic facility. TFC lets operators manage IT and network environments from a single system, and the flypacks used NEP Platform to deploy Riedel's SimplyLive solution for video switching, replay and multiviewing.

The Tech Race

The flypack kits extend NEP's TFC broadcast control system beyond its mobile units into smaller, portable kits for remote productions. The move positions NEP to compete for live-event work where full mobile trucks are not practical.

Production teams covering remote events can use flypack kits in place of a full mobile unit, which may lower logistics and setup demands. Viewers would see the same 1080p, HDR and 4K output produced from a smaller footprint.

The takeaway

Portable IP-based production kits let broadcasters deliver mobile-unit quality from a smaller footprint. Teams planning remote coverage should evaluate whether a flypack can replace a full truck for their event.
