Outfielder Alek Thomas has officially elected free agency after finishing his 2026 campaign with the Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets. Thomas became a free agent after clearing waivers following his designation for assignment by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Why it matters
Thomas is now free to negotiate with any Major League Baseball organization after spending the tail end of his 2026 season outside of the Dodgers 40-man roster. His departure marks the end of a brief tenure with the Los Angeles franchise following his mid-season acquisition.
Alek Thomas finished his time with the Oklahoma City Comets with a slash line of .305/.378/.537 and an OPS of .915. Across 68 games, he recorded 20 doubles, five triples, and eight stolen bases.

Season Trajectory
Thomas enters the open market following a successful stint with the Triple-A National Championship-winning Oklahoma City Comets. This move reflects the typical late-season roster turnover for teams preparing their final configurations for the following year.
Alek Thomas is now eligible to sign with any of the 30 MLB clubs for the upcoming season. Fantasy managers should monitor his landing spot as his performance in Triple-A suggests potential upside if he earns consistent major league playing time.
The takeaway
Players who are designated for assignment and clear waivers often look to refresh their careers in new environments during the off-season. Thomas's strong offensive numbers in Triple-A make him a notable free agent to watch as teams build their spring training rosters.
