Seasonal Patterns

This weather event follows the National Weather Service's seasonal transition guidelines for HVAC maintenance. These protocols provide a standard framework for homeowners to evaluate mechanical systems following extreme weather events.

Check your outdoor HVAC unit and breakers for any signs of water intrusion or flood damage before turning on your heater. Keep outdoor units powered off if they were exposed to standing water to prevent electrical shorts or internal damage.

The takeaway

Replacing air filters is a critical step to take before the full onset of colder weather to ensure efficient system performance. Addressing potential flood-related mechanical issues now can prevent costly heating repairs once temperatures drop further.
