Faith Lutheran senior golfer Maddie Perez has entered the Southern Region tournament at Aliante as the top-ranked golfer in the Mountain League. Perez is now aiming for a state title after finishing in second place during last year's 5A individual state tournament.
Why it matters
After winning four of five league matches this season, Perez is positioned to anchor Faith Lutheran's pursuit of a team state championship. The senior, who has committed to play for UNLV, seeks to improve upon her team's third-place finish last year.
Perez enters the regional competition five strokes ahead of her closest competitor. Faith Lutheran finished third in the state championship last year, trailing the winner, Coronado, by 10 strokes.

Season Trajectory
Perez is looking to convert her dominant league play into a state title following last year's runner-up finish at the 2025 5A individual state tournament. Her success is essential for Faith Lutheran to close the gap against traditional powers like Coronado.
Perez enters the regional bracket holding a five-stroke advantage over the rest of the field. Faith Lutheran needs a high finish in the regional match at Aliante to secure a favorable seed for the state tournament starting October 12 in Reno.
The takeaway
Consistency remains the deciding factor for high school athletes aiming for collegiate recruitment. Players who perform well in league play must maintain that precision through the high-pressure environment of multi-day state championship matches.
