Do you plan to vote in the upcoming election on November 3?

Louisiana residents have until October 13, 2026, to register to vote online through the state's official GeauxVote system. Ensuring registration is completed by this deadline is a mandatory step for citizens planning to participate in the November 3 election.

Why it matters

Meeting the registration deadline is the essential first step for eligible citizens to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming election. Proper registration ensures that voters can participate in both the early voting period and the final day of voting.

The GeauxVote Online Registration System allows users to complete the process in approximately 5 minutes. Voters may also use the GeauxVote app to confirm their registration status and locate polling stations.

October 20-27, 2026: Early voting period, excluding Sunday, October 25.
November 3, 2026: Election Day.

Political Context

The state's use of a centralized digital registration system follows a pattern established by the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 to streamline voter access. Opponents of digital-only registration often argue that reliance on such systems may disenfranchise voters lacking reliable high-speed internet or technical literacy.

Residents must complete their digital registration by the October 13 deadline to avoid being barred from casting a ballot in the November election. Those who are already registered can use the GeauxVote app to confirm their polling place and prepare for the upcoming voting window.

The takeaway

Registering ahead of time is critical to avoiding last-minute complications during the busy election season. Taking five minutes to verify your status today ensures you remain prepared to participate in the democratic process.

What happens next

Early voting will take place across Louisiana from October 20 through October 27, 2026, with daily hours running from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., excluding Sunday, October 25.
