Big 5 Sporting Goods is officially closing its retail store located on Milwaukee Street in Boise. The company is currently liquidating its remaining inventory to clear out the shop.

Why it matters

The closure removes another sporting goods option from the Boise retail market following similar recent departures. It marks a shift in the local landscape for consumers seeking athletic equipment in the city.

The store is currently clearing its shelves through a liquidation sale. Customers can expect to see deeper markdowns on all remaining inventory throughout the coming weeks.

The players

Big 5 Sporting Goods

This is a major retail chain that specializes in sports equipment and outdoor gear.

Al's Sporting Goods

This is a competing retailer that recently exited the local Boise market.

The details

The Big 5 Sporting Goods location on Milwaukee Street is displaying signs indicating that all store merchandise must go. This liquidation process aims to deplete stock before the facility finishes its operations.

October 2026: Al's Sporting Goods previously closed its Boise location.
October 27, 2026: The announcement regarding the closing of the Big 5 store was made.
Coming weeks: The store will provide steeper discounts on remaining inventory.

Market Landscape

The closure of this store follows the recent exit of Al's Sporting Goods from the Boise market in October 2026. This trend reflects ongoing shifts in the physical retail sector as specialized chains adjust their brick-and-mortar footprints.

Local shoppers can take advantage of immediate liquidation discounts on remaining gear at the Milwaukee Street store. After the liquidation sale concludes, residents will need to find alternative retailers for their sporting and outdoor equipment needs.

The takeaway

Customers interested in discounted equipment should visit the store promptly while the liquidation sale is active. Shoppers should also be aware that the local availability of certain sporting goods brands may change as multiple major retailers depart the area.
