Timeline
January 30, 2027: The application window officially closes.
April 2027: Scholarship recipients will be announced.
Culture Shift
This program aligns with the national skilled trade labor shortage, reflecting a broader shift where private firms are increasingly funding vocational pathways. It moves away from traditional college-only support to address gaps in the specialized technical workforce.
Students and apprentices in the Cedar Rapids area can apply for these funds to help cover costs associated with their technical training or degree. Candidates should ensure they have their letter of recommendation ready to complete the application before the January deadline.
The takeaway
Interested students should prioritize obtaining a high-quality letter of recommendation as it is a mandatory part of the application process. Setting a calendar reminder for the January deadline is essential to ensure all materials are submitted on time.
