Baxter Auto Group is preparing to launch a new Subaru dealership on a 12-acre site in the Northgate area of Colorado Springs by early 2028. The development will feature a large sales and service center adjacent to the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Why it matters
Subaru selected this site as an open point opportunity to capitalize on consistent growth in the far north side of the city. The project represents a strategic expansion for Baxter Auto Group, which currently operates two other locations in the region.
The new site includes a 61,359-square-foot sales and service building and a 2,856-square-foot private car wash. Baxter Auto Group currently represents eight different vehicle brands across its 19 dealership locations.
The players
Baxter Auto Group
An automotive retail company headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, that operates 19 dealerships representing eight vehicle brands.
Heuberger Subaru
A long-standing dealership in Colorado Springs that has operated in the city since 1970.
U.S. Air Force Academy
A federal service academy located in Colorado Springs that is positioned adjacent to the new development site.
The details
The facility is strategically positioned at the intersection of North Gate Boulevard and Struthers Road. This project will introduce a second dedicated Subaru option to the Colorado Springs market, joining the long-standing Heuberger Subaru.
Timeline
1957: Baxter Auto Group established its roots.
1970: Heuberger Subaru opened in Colorado Springs.
2016: Baxter Auto purchased Lexus of Colorado Springs.
2022: Baxter Auto purchased Toyota of Colorado Springs.
Early 2028: The new Subaru dealership is expected to open.
Roadmap
This project reflects the broader auto industry trend of consolidating market share through aggressive expansion in high-growth suburban corridors. By establishing this facility, Baxter Auto Group is positioning itself to compete directly with legacy dealerships for the regional Subaru market.
Local drivers in the Northgate area will soon have a more accessible location for vehicle purchases and factory-authorized maintenance services. This expansion may also influence local competitive pricing and service wait times as consumers gain a second choice for Subaru needs.
The takeaway
The addition of this facility underscores the importance of regional growth patterns in shaping where auto manufacturers choose to invest. Residents in the northern part of the city can anticipate greater convenience for brand-specific servicing once the location becomes operational.
