Phoenix Suns head coach Jordan Ott received honorable mentions for best offensive and defensive schemes in the latest NBA GM survey. He is the only representative from the Phoenix organization to appear on the annual poll.
Why it matters
The survey reflects the collective perspective of all 30 NBA general managers on the current standing of league coaches and players. Recognition for Ott follows a season where the team secured a playoff berth under his leadership.
Ott led the Suns to 45 wins last season while achieving a 16th-place offensive ranking and a 10th-place defensive ranking across the league. The survey itself encompasses 48 questions answered by 30 general managers.
The players
Jordan Ott
He serves as the head coach for the Phoenix Suns and is entering his second season with the organization.
Devin Booker
He is a prominent shooting guard for the Phoenix Suns who previously appeared on the survey top players list in 2020-21.
The details
While Ott received recognition for his schemes, Suns guard Devin Booker was excluded from the list of top shooting guards. The survey results, published annually for 25 seasons, assess teams and personnel across the entire league.
Timeline
The NBA GM survey results were published on October 16, 2026.
Season Trajectory
The exclusion of star talent like Devin Booker from the top shooting guard rankings contrasts with historical results from the 2020-21 survey. This shift in general manager sentiment arrives as the Suns look to build on their 45-win campaign.
The honorable mentions for Jordan Ott acknowledge his role in guiding the team to a top-10 defensive ranking in the league. General managers notably prioritized Anthony Edwards for the top shooting guard spot, who received 73% of the total vote.
The takeaway
The NBA GM survey provides a window into how front offices evaluate coaching influence compared to raw player talent. Readers should note that league-wide perceptions can fluctuate significantly from season to season.
