Should your local NFL team prioritize younger players with longer contracts when making trades?
The Philadelphia Eagles have acquired wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks from the Green Bay Packers in exchange for two draft picks. The team is prioritizing Wicks for his blocking ability and his status as a younger player under contract for two years.
Why it matters
The move suggests the Eagles are prioritizing long-term roster stability and run-game support over immediate veteran acquisitions like Hollywood Brown. Brown is still expected to be traded elsewhere in the coming weeks.
Wicks recorded 108 receptions, 1,328 yards, and 11 touchdowns over his three-season tenure with the Green Bay Packers. The Eagles surrendered a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick to finalize the deal.

Season Trajectory
The acquisition reflects a strategic shift for the Eagles as they look to shore up depth ahead of the 2026 playoff race. This move changes the team's offensive outlook and impacts their draft capital for the next two years.
The trade of a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick reduces Philadelphia's total draft capital for those cycles. Fantasy managers should monitor Wicks' snap counts, as his primary value in Philadelphia may stem from his blocking rather than high-volume targets.
The takeaway
Teams often prioritize players with multi-year contract security and versatility over higher-profile, short-term assets. Integrating a younger player who fits a team's specific scheme requirements can prove more valuable than making a splashy veteran trade.
