DC Comics has cancelled advanced retail orders for four upcoming Absolute Universe deluxe hardcover editions. Both Lunar Distribution and Amazon have removed or disabled ordering for these titles.
Why it matters
The cancellations represent a significant disruption to the Absolute Universe imprint, which only launched in fall 2024. These deluxe editions were intended to provide premium collection formats for recent series debuts.
The cancelled titles include collections of 14 issues each for Absolute Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, along with a volume compiling 200 variant covers for Absolute Batman.
The players
DC Comics
This major American comic book publisher is a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery and produces iconic characters like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.
Lunar Distribution
This company acts as a primary distributor for comic books and graphic novels within the direct market.
Amazon
This multinational technology company operates one of the world's largest online retail marketplaces for books and media.
The details
Retailer Amazon continues to display product pages for three of the books, though the ability to purchase or pre-order them is currently disabled. Lunar Distribution has entirely removed the listings for all four affected hardcover editions from its platform.
Timeline
Fall 2024: The Absolute Universe imprint launched.
Early 2026: Hardcover editions were originally announced.
Late October 2026: Absolute Batman #25 is scheduled for release.
August 31, 2027: New release date for the Absolute Wonder Woman collection.
Culture Shift
The cancellation of these titles marks a sudden pivot from the aggressive expansion strategy established by the fall 2024 launch of the DC Absolute Universe imprint. This decision forces a recalibration of the premium hardcover release schedule for a major comic book publisher.
Readers who previously placed pre-orders for these deluxe editions should check their retailer accounts for automatic cancellation notifications or refund processing. Collectors must now wait until at least August 2027 for the Absolute Wonder Woman title, as the publisher has delayed the release significantly.
The takeaway
Collectors may want to monitor retailer status pages periodically as release dates for premium hardcovers remain fluid. Adjusting collection budgets is recommended until the publisher confirms a revised release timeline for the remaining Absolute Universe volumes.
What happens next
Absolute Batman #25 is scheduled for release in late October 2026, and the Absolute Wonder Woman: Deluxe Edition Vol. 1 is set to debut on August 31, 2027.
