Bill Skarsgård did not rule out playing a James Bond villain during a Happy Sad Confused podcast interview. Fans on social media have requested him for Amazon MGM Studios' upcoming James Bond film.
Why it matters
Skarsgård said he was not contacted about the role, and Amazon MGM Studios has not commented on specific casting details. His remarks add a fan-driven candidate to a casting search that is still underway.
Skarsgård has portrayed Count Orlok in Nosferatu and Pennywise in the IT franchise, both horror roles. Robert Pattinson, Nicholas Hoult, Theo James, and Harry Styles have faced screen tests, while Skarsgård said he was not called about the part.
The players
Bill Skarsgård
Swedish actor known for playing Pennywise in the IT films and Count Orlok in Nosferatu, two of his most prominent horror roles.
Amazon MGM Studios
Hollywood studio producing the upcoming James Bond adaptation and leading the search for the next actor to play 007.
The details
In the Happy Sad Confused interview, Skarsgård said a villain role would need to feel original and something he had not done before. He said he is drawn to roles he cannot easily describe and does not want to become jaded.
Timeline
Amazon MGM Studios said on the official 007 website that the search for the next James Bond is underway.
The new 007 is reported to be shown by the end of 2026.
Legal Context
Bond casting has historically drawn public screen tests and fan speculation, a pattern visible in the current search that includes Pattinson, Hoult, James, and Styles. Skarsgård's fan-backed candidacy fits that established cycle rather than breaking from it.
Viewers will learn who plays 007 only when Amazon MGM Studios announces the casting, and the film is reported to be shown by the end of 2026. Until then, no release access or screening details for the new Bond film have been confirmed.
The takeaway
Actor interest and fan campaigns can generate attention for a role, but studio casting decisions remain with the production. Readers tracking the Bond search should watch for official announcements from Amazon MGM Studios.
