Google has rolled out 'Notify when left behind' alerts for Find Hub trackers on Android. The alert sends a notification when a tag is separated from the user's phone, and is available in Find Hub version 3.1.787-06 for users in the United States and Europe.

Why it matters

The alert gives owners of Find Hub-compatible tags a way to catch an item left behind before it is out of range. Google's first mention of the capability came in Google Play services release notes, which previewed the feature before its rollout.

The feature ships in Find Hub version 3.1.787-06 for Android and is limited to US and European users at launch. The option currently appears only for Chipolo trackers and the Moto Tag, while other device types such as headphones do not show it.

The players

Google

Google is the technology company that operates the Find Hub network, the Android platform, and the Play services release channel through which the feature was first mentioned.

The details

Users open the Find Hub app, select a tag, and tap the settings gear icon at the top right of the bottom sheet to find the 'Notify when left behind' section. The new registration flow will also surface the alert option alongside category icons and tag renaming, and Google has announced upcoming NFC support for tapping a tag with a phone to access its details or identify a lost tag.

Timeline

  1. October 2026: Google previewed the Notify when left behind alerts.

  2. November 5, 2026: Google rolled out the alerts on Android.

The Tech Race

The left-behind alert extends Google's Find Hub network, which competes with Apple's Find My ecosystem in the market for lost-item trackers. Adding proactive separation alerts moves Google closer to the feature set owners of Apple AirTags have relied on for years.

Owners of Chipolo trackers or the Moto Tag on Android can enable the alert in the Find Hub app to get notified when a tag is separated from their phone. The option does not appear for headphones or other device types, so users of those products will not receive the same alert.

The takeaway

Enabling the 'Notify when left behind' setting on each tracker you rely on takes only a few taps in the Find Hub app and can prevent a forgotten item from being lost.
