GatesAir has added monitoring, reporting and network architecture enhancements to its AirWatch365 managed service for TV, FM and DAB/DAB+ transmission systems. The service continuously monitors transmitters through GatesAir's 24/7 Network Operations Center and is drawing operational data from 18 TV and FM radio transmitter sites in an expanding U.S. beta program.

Why it matters

The changes accommodate different customer IT and network security requirements while providing broadcasters with continuous transmitter health visibility. The enhancements reflect real-world experience gathered during the ongoing beta program.

The monitoring service is currently collecting transmitter alarm and diagnostic data from 18 TV and FM radio sites. The extraction does not disclose how many total sites the service is designed to cover or what volume of incidents has been recorded so far.

The players

GatesAir

GatesAir is a broadcast transmission equipment and services company headquartered in Cincinnati that supplies TV and radio transmitters and managed monitoring services.

The details

The new fleet performance dashboard offers nationwide, regional and individual site views, and a weather overlay shows weather patterns relative to transmitter locations. For customers who require it, the AirWatch365 Edge Gateway, introduced at NAB Show 2026, relays transmitter telemetry from inside the customer network without giving GatesAir direct access to the transmitter or internal network. GatesAir applies AI-assisted analysis to transmitter alarms, and the service requires very little data throughput.

Timeline

  1. NAB Show 2026: Edge Gateway introduced as an on-premises appliance.

  2. Since NAB Show 2026: monitoring architecture expanded to meet customer IT requirements.

Seasonal Patterns

The AirWatch365 service now combines continuous 24/7 Network Operations Center oversight with a weather overlay that places storm patterns against transmitter locations. This pairing lets broadcasters anticipate weather-related transmitter stress rather than reacting after an outage.

Broadcasters considering managed transmitter monitoring should evaluate whether an inside-firewall or Edge Gateway deployment matches their network security policies. Operators can use the fleet dashboard's site-level and regional views to prioritize maintenance when severe weather approaches.

The takeaway

Managed transmitter monitoring can now be deployed to match a broadcaster's own security policies without giving the vendor direct access to internal systems. Pairing fleet health data with weather overlays gives operators an earlier view of storm risk to their transmitters.
