10x Genomics Launches AI Agent for Single-Cell Data
Sentira Single Cell lets researchers query single-cell datasets in plain English through a Claude-based AI agent, launched November 2, 2026.
Updated on Nov. 5, 2026 in Biotech

10x Genomics launched Sentira Single Cell, a cloud application that lets researchers ask questions of single-cell data in plain English. An AI agent based on Anthropic's Claude proposes an analysis plan, runs it, and provides the underlying Python code.
Why it matters
The company describes a "last mile" problem in single-cell analysis, where custom coding has been required to reach answers from the data. The tool is aimed at lowering that barrier for researchers working with large biological datasets.
The agent generates an editable notebook recording methods and Python code using packages such as Scanpy, and runs analyses in parallel on 10x Cloud. 10x Genomics has not yet published accuracy figures for the agent, and says it will release its evaluation results.
The players
10x Genomics
10x Genomics is a life sciences company known for single-cell and spatial genomics tools used widely in biomedical research.
Anthropic
Anthropic is an AI safety company that develops the Claude family of large language models, on which the Sentira agent is based.
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a Boston-based cancer research and treatment center affiliated with Harvard Medical School.
The details
Researchers can bring their own hypothesis or have Sentira suggest one from their data, and can revise the agent's plan before it runs. Each run produces an editable notebook, and Sentira Spatial has been in free early access for Xenium and Atera users since September 29, 2026.
Timeline
September 29, 2026: Sentira Spatial free early access begins for Xenium and Atera users.
November 2, 2026: Sentira Single Cell launches as a cloud application.
November 4, 2026: 10x Genomics has not yet published accuracy figures for the agent.
The Tech Race
The launch builds on Scanpy, the open-source Python package that has long been a standard tool for single-cell analysis. By pairing that workflow with Anthropic's Claude, 10x Genomics is positioning its platform against other efforts to put AI agents on top of biological data tools.
Researchers without custom coding skills can now ask single-cell data questions and receive runnable code and an editable notebook. Pricing is by consumption, with promotional credits offered at launch.
The takeaway
Tools that convert plain-language questions into runnable analysis code could shorten the path from raw biological data to findings. Users should watch for published accuracy results before relying on the agent's outputs.
What happens next
10x Genomics plans to publish results and its evaluation framework from accuracy tests of the agent, and expects a paid launch of Sentira Spatial in early 2027.
