Would you buy a robotic lawn mower that sharpens its own blades?

Pudu Robotics unveiled the PUDU TOMO S Series robotic lawn mower, built around a SharpLoop Self-Sharpening System that automatically sharpens the rotary blades at the charging station when needed. Sales are expected in early spring 2027.

Why it matters

The self-sharpening design targets one of the recurring maintenance chores of robotic lawn care, which is keeping cutting blades sharp without manual intervention. The mower's range of models is aimed at lawns from small residential plots to larger properties.

The manufacturer specifies dual 636 W high-torque motors driving blades at up to 6,000 RPM, with climbing ability up to 45° and obstacle crossing up to 6 cm. The three models cover lawns from 1,500 m² to 5,000 m², and independent verification of these specifications has not been published.

The players

Pudu Robotics

Pudu Robotics is a Chinese maker of commercial and service robots that has shipped about 130,000 robots to customers in 85 countries and regions and holds around 1,900 patent applications worldwide.

The details

The SharpLoop system runs a mow-return-sharpen-repeat cycle without tools, while the Zero Edge Cutting system uses an offset cutting deck and side sensing to reach close to edges. The mower has all-wheel drive with four independent high-torque hub motors, and its Triple-Sense Navigation combines 360° LiDAR, AI Vision and network RTK. One-Tap Auto Mapping identifies lawn boundaries and plans routes from the first run.

  2. Early spring 2027: Sales of the PUDU TOMO S Series are expected to begin.

Tech Race

The SharpLoop feature moves blade maintenance from a manual task into the mower's own charging cycle, extending the robotic mower category beyond basic autonomous cutting. Pudu's three-model lineup covers lawn sizes from small residential plots to large properties, placing the product against rival robotic mower makers in the residential segment.

Owners would no longer need to remove and sharpen blades by hand, since the SharpLoop system handles sharpening at the charging station. Buyers with lawns from 0.37 to 1.24 acres would be able to choose the model sized to their property once sales begin.

The takeaway

Self-maintaining blades reduce one of the few hands-on chores left in robotic lawn care, so buyers comparing models should weigh sharpening automation alongside cutting coverage and navigation. Pricing and availability should be confirmed once spring 2027 sales are announced.

What happens next

Sales of the PUDU TOMO S Series are expected to begin in early spring 2027.
