Zoom, Microsoft Apps Add iPhone Duo Support

Zoom was updated with iPhone Duo optimization over the weekend, letting users see shared content and other participants on the inner display at the same time. On November 2, Microsoft optimized Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote for the device.

Why it matters

Apps built with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later are fully optimized for iPhone Duo, while earlier builds run but sit in the center of the inner display. Microsoft Teams has not yet been optimized for the device.

Four Microsoft apps, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote, were optimized for iPhone Duo on November 2, joining Outlook, which was optimized at launch. Microsoft Teams remains unoptimized, and the source does not say when that will change.

The players

Zoom

Zoom is a video communications platform widely used for meetings, webinars, and remote collaboration across businesses and individuals.

Microsoft

Microsoft is a multinational technology company that develops the Windows operating system, the Office productivity suite, and the Teams collaboration platform.

The details

Optimized apps extend to fill both the outer and inner displays, with toolbars and tab bars appearing vertically below the status bar. Apps built with the iOS 26 SDK or earlier leave large areas of empty space on the inner display and can be identified by the absence of a "Made for iPhone Duo" label in the App Store.

Timeline

  1. Over the weekend before November 2: Zoom was updated with iPhone Duo optimization.

  2. November 2: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote were updated with iPhone Duo optimization.

Market Landscape

Full optimization depends on developers building against the iOS 27.1 SDK or later, so the iPhone Duo's usable app ecosystem will grow as teams adopt that toolchain. Microsoft's staggered rollout, with Outlook at launch and Office apps weeks later while Teams lags, shows how unevenly large software suites adapt to new form factors.

Remote workers using Zoom or Office on iPhone Duo can now share content and view participants across both displays at once, and Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote fill the full screen. Anyone relying on Teams on the device will still see a centered, unoptimized layout until Microsoft updates it.

The takeaway

Before relying on a new device for daily work, check the App Store for the "Made for iPhone Duo" label to confirm each app fills the display. Apps without that label will work but leave the inner screen largely empty.
