Reddit has officially split its homepage into two distinct feeds, For You and Following, to streamline content discovery. The update is currently rolling out globally and allows users to toggle between personalized recommendations and posts from their joined subreddits.
Why it matters
This layout shift aims to personalize the user experience by blending community posts with algorithmically suggested content. The change represents a move to modernize navigation as the platform prepares to phase out older site features like r/all.
The platform now utilizes two homepage feeds, with the app automatically saving the user's last selected tab as their default view. While the new layout is standard, access remains available via old.reddit.com.
The players
Reddit is a popular social news aggregation and discussion website that allows users to submit content and join communities called subreddits.
The details
The Following feed restricts content to subreddits a user has explicitly joined, while the For You feed integrates those communities with broader recommendations. Reddit is implementing this structure as it moves toward deprecating r/all, which was previously announced in 2026.
Timeline
Reddit announced the deprecation of r/all in 2026.
The homepage split into two feeds occurred in October 2026.
The global rollout of the new layout concludes in November 2026.
The Tech Race
The new feed structure marks a departure from the r/all feed, which previously served as the platform's primary method for surfacing trending content. This transition aligns with broader industry trends where major social platforms replace chronological aggregators with algorithmic discovery engines.
Users can now toggle between their preferred content streams by tapping a tab at the top of the app. The interface will remember your last selection, though active users should note that the platform plans to restrict Old Reddit access for accounts with limited recent activity.
The takeaway
This update forces a change in how users browse trending topics and community submissions. To maintain your preferred browsing style, ensure your account remains active as the platform continues to phase out legacy features.
