Security researchers have identified hundreds of exposed secrets and API keys within publicly accessible Cairn control panels. These exposed panels have been linked to an AI-agent campaign that successfully breached sites at over 100 companies.
Why it matters
The compromise of these control panels allows attackers to launch automated projects targeting e-commerce platforms and payment systems. By redirecting agents and accessing sensitive credentials, attackers are able to steal financial data and facilitate unauthorized cryptocurrency transactions.
Researchers verified 11% of the exposed secrets as valid, while a single cluster of 14 panels contained over 1,100 specific attack projects. These projects specifically targeted e-commerce systems and utilized Cairn to manage cryptocurrency transfers.

The details
The exposed Cairn control panels provided attackers with the ability to initiate new projects, redirect AI agents, and access records of discovered system weaknesses. An associated AI-agent campaign successfully accessed sites at more than 100 companies while attempting to penetrate over 1,200 unique websites.

The Tech Race
This vulnerability highlights the growing security risks associated with the centralized management of AI-agent automation tools. As companies increasingly integrate AI agents into their workflows, securing the infrastructure behind these tools has become a critical battleground against automated exploitation.
Businesses utilizing Cairn panels must immediately audit their security settings to ensure that API keys and administrative credentials are not publicly exposed. Failure to secure these interfaces can lead to direct financial losses and the theft of sensitive payment or cryptocurrency data.
The takeaway
The incident serves as a stark reminder that automated AI tools can be weaponized if the underlying control infrastructure is left unprotected. Organizations should prioritize strict access controls and regular security audits for any platforms that manage AI-agent deployments.
