TTArtisan has launched the AF 24mm f/3.8 Mini pancake lens, a lightweight prime optic designed specifically for Sony E-mount cameras. This compact accessory includes integrated autofocus capabilities and is available globally.
Why it matters
This release provides photographers with an affordable and highly portable wide-angle lens option that integrates modern autofocus features into a minimalist form factor. Its small size and weight make it a practical choice for street photography and daily carry setups.
The lens measures 16 millimeters in length and weighs 57 grams, making it one of the most compact E-mount options available. It is priced at an MSRP of $99 and features a 52mm front filter thread.
The players
TTArtisan
This manufacturer is a prominent producer of affordable manual and autofocus camera lenses for multiple mirrorless lens mounts.
Sony
This multinational conglomerate produces the E-mount mirrorless camera system used by a significant portion of the global photography market.
The details
The lens is constructed with six optical elements in six groups and utilizes a fixed aperture of f/3.8 with a nine-bladed diaphragm. It supports eye- and face-detect autofocus and includes a USB Type-C port for firmware updates alongside a built-in lens cap lever.
Timeline
TTArtisan released the AF 24mm f/3.8 Mini lens on October 13, 2026.
Culture Shift
The introduction of this lens reflects a broader industry movement toward ultra-compact gear that favors portability over complex optical designs. It follows the pattern set by the Sony E-mount lens ecosystem by offering users affordable alternatives to bulkier native lenses.
Photographers can now add a pocketable prime lens to their kit for under $100 without sacrificing the convenience of modern autofocus. The inclusion of a USB-C port ensures the lens remains compatible with future camera firmware updates.
The takeaway
The AF 24mm f/3.8 Mini prioritizes extreme portability, making it ideal for photographers looking to keep their equipment as small as possible. Interested buyers should note that the fixed aperture limit requires higher ISO or longer shutter speeds in dim lighting.
