Golfer Charlie Forster has recruited two-time county champion Joe Buenfeld to serve as his caddie for upcoming events in China. Forster is currently seeking to improve his standing on the money list to qualify for the Road to Mallorca Tour Championship.
Why it matters
Forster hired a familiar face to gain a competitive edge under pressure as he attempts to secure a crucial playing card for the 2027 DP World Tour season. This move follows a strong 10th-place finish in Abu Dhabi, signaling his intent to close the gap on the top 45 rankings.
Forster currently holds the 57th position on the money list, requiring a climb of 15 places to break into the top 45 qualification bracket. This week's tournament features a total prize fund of $500,000.
The players
Charlie Forster
He is a professional golfer who played collegiate golf for Long Beach State and Southeast Louisiana University.
Joe Buenfeld
He is a two-time county golf champion who previously competed as a teammate with Charlie Forster.
The details
Forster, who previously played collegiate golf for Long Beach State and Southeast Louisiana University, needs a top-tier performance during his upcoming appearances on Hainan Island and in Hang Zhou. He is leaning on his former Hampshire teammate, Buenfeld, to navigate these high-stakes events as he chases a spot in the season finale.
Timeline
The Road to Mallorca Tour Championship is scheduled for October 29 to November 1, 2026.
The DP World Tour Qualifying School stages will take place in Spain throughout November 2026.
Season Trajectory
Forster's strategic caddie hire aligns with the high-pressure nature of the DP World Tour Qualifying School progression. His performance over these two final events will determine his eligibility for the 2027 season and his overall standing within the professional golf circuit.
Forster must bridge a 15-spot deficit on the money list to earn his qualification for the Road to Mallorca Tour Championship. A high finish in the upcoming China events is his only path to securing the necessary ranking points before the season concludes in Spain.
The takeaway
Professional golfers often rely on the familiarity of trusted peers to manage the mental fatigue associated with end-of-season pressure. Success in this final qualifying stretch requires both physical consistency and effective communication between a player and their chosen caddie.
