Global Esports has been eliminated from the Valorant Champions Shanghai tournament after falling in the group stage. The team, which entered as the top Pacific seed, ultimately failed to secure a spot in the playoffs.
Why it matters
The elimination of a high-performing top seed highlights the high level of parity and intense competition currently defining the international Valorant professional circuit. Their early exit shifts the bracket landscape as remaining teams vie for the championship title.
Global Esports exited the tournament after a 0-2 loss to Loud, following a 1-2 defeat to Team Vitality and a 2-0 victory over EDward Gaming. Meanwhile, Paper Rex secured a playoff berth with 2-1 wins over both Team Liquid and G2 Esports.

The details

Timeline
October 7, 2026, 8 p.m. Paper Rex faces Loud.
Season Trajectory
This early exit disrupts the established expectations for Pacific region dominance within the VCT circuit, clearing the path for rising teams to reshape the playoff bracket. The loss forces a recalibration of international rankings as the tournament transitions into its final stages.
Global Esports' exit eliminates them from playoff contention, nullifying any potential fantasy value for the team for the remainder of the event. Conversely, Paper Rex's advancement solidifies their status as a key team to monitor for upcoming bracket matchups.
The takeaway
Upsets in the group stage demonstrate the volatility of professional Valorant, where previous regional dominance does not guarantee success in international competition. Analysts suggest that consistent performance across diverse map pools remains the primary predictor of deep tournament runs.
