Introduction
Tornado Alley is an area of the United States stretching from the Central Plains states to the upper Midwest. It is well known for being a hotspot of tornado activity. Spanning Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and parts of Texas, Missouri, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota, this region experiences some of the most destructive and dangerous tornadoes in the world with an average of over 1000 tornadoes each year. In addition to this high rate of frequency for twisters in these states, it is also known for having some of the highest intensity storms with winds regularly reaching speeds over 300 mph. Every spring this area prepares for an onslaught of powerful storms that can cause widespread destruction and loss of life if not properly monitored or taken seriously. With the help of modern meteorological advances like Doppler radar systems and well-trained storm chasers monitoring weather conditions throughout Tornado Alley’s prime season period from March to June every year, lives are saved as people become better informed about weather related risks in their area.
