Introduction
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are infections that are passed on from one person to another through sexual contact. STDs can be caused by a variety of pathogens, including viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites. These infections can affect the genitals, rectum, and mouth and they can be spread through any type of sexual activity that involves skin-to-skin contact or the exchange of bodily fluids. There are many different types of STDs; some of the most common ones include chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, human papillomavirus (HPV), HIV/AIDS, and genital herpes. The symptoms of an STD range from mild to severe and can include itching or burning in the genital area; pain during urination; abnormal discharge from the penis or vagina; sores on or near the genitals; swollen glands in the groin area; nausea, fever and body aches. If untreated, STDs can lead to serious health problems such as cancer and infertility.

STD Statistics Worldwide
STD statistics worldwide are concerningly high. According to the WHO, there were more than 1 million cases of syphilis reported worldwide in 2016, a number that has been steadily increasing since 2012. In addition, there were more than 500 million cases of chlamydia reported worldwide in 2016, with the majority occurring in women between the ages of 15 and 24. Additionally, gonorrhea cases have been continually increasing globally since 2009 and reached an estimated 78 million cases in 2016. HIV is still one of the most deadly STDs around the globe with an estimated 36.7 million people living with it as of 2018. Moreover, genital herpes is also quite prevalent across different countries, with an estimated 536 million individuals infected as of 2017. These alarming statistics demonstrate how widespread STDs are on a global scale and how important it is for individuals to practice safe sex and get tested regularly to prevent the further spreading of these diseases. It is also essential for governments to take action by providing access to effective sexual healthcare services such as education and treatment options to help reduce the spread of these infections.
Countries With Highest STD Rates
The countries with the highest STD rates are South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Bermuda, Brazil, Gabon, Barbados, Puerto Rico, Eswatini, and Cuba. South Africa holds the highest STD rate in the world with 37,272.5 cases per 100,000 people. This is followed by Botswana with 34,105.7 and Lesotho with 32,472.4 respectively. On the other hand, Bermuda has a slightly lower STD rate of 32,364.6 cases per 100,000 people than Lesotho but still higher than Brazil’s 31,745.5 and Gabon’s 31,451.6 cases per 100,000 people respectively. Furthermore, Barbados has a slightly lower rate of STD cases at 30,968.9 per 100,000, followed by Puerto Rico with 30,910.9 and Eswatini with 30,865.6 respectively before finally reaching Cuba with 30,769.5 cases per 100,000 people which ranks tenth on the list of countries having the highest STD rates around the world.

Country With Highest STD Rate
South Africa is the country with the highest STD rate in the world, with an estimated 37,272.5 cases per 100K inhabitants. This incredibly high number is driven by many factors, such as high rates of poverty and a lack of access to healthcare services for those in need. There is also a large stigma associated with getting tested for STDs in some parts of South Africa which further contributes to the high rates. Moreover, uneducated populations are more prone to engage in sexual activities without proper protection, leading to rising numbers of new infections each year. These issues have been compounded by the HIV/AIDS epidemic that has been ongoing in South Africa since the late 20th century, making it even harder for parts of the population to take preventive measures against STDs.
Countries With Lowest STD Rates
The countries with the lowest STD rates are Pakistan, Afghanistan, Israel, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Yemen, India, the United Kingdom, and Palestine. Pakistan holds the lowest STD rate in the world with 7,421 cases per 100,000 people. This is followed by Afghanistan with 8,889.4 and Israel with 9,454.9 cases per 100,000 individuals respectively. Nepal has the fourth-lowest STD rate in the world with 9,585.3 cases per 100,000 people. Bangladesh has the fifth-lowest STD rate with 10,038.1 cases while Bhutan has the sixth-lowest STD rate with 10,425.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Yemen ranks seventh in terms of lowest STD rates worldwide with 10,648.1 cases and is followed by India, ranking eighth, with 10,763.2 cases per 100,000 people. With 10,886.9 cases per 100,000 individuals, the United Kingdom has the ninth-lowest STD rate in the world. Finally, Palestine, with 11,201.9 cases per 100,000 people ranks tenth on the list of countries having the highest STD rates around the world.

Country With Lowest STD Rate
Pakistan is the country with the lowest STD rate in the world with an STD rate of 7,421 per 100,000 people. This is partly due to cultural norms related to sexual health, such as strong family connections and religious beliefs which strongly discourage premarital sex. Additionally, Pakistan has a strong public health infrastructure that provides free STD testing and treatment for those infected with STDs. This helps lower the spread of these diseases by allowing people to get tested and treated quickly and efficiently if needed. Furthermore, there is a range of other preventive measures taken by Pakistani authorities such as increasing access to contraception and providing comprehensive sex education in schools. These steps have contributed to making Pakistan one of the countries with the lowest STD rates in the world today.

Afghanistan has one of the lowest STD rates in the world: it is estimated that 8,889.4 out of 100,000 people are living with an STD in Afghanistan, making it rank one hundred ninety-second out of all countries based on this metric. There has been an increase in the prevalence of STDs in recent years due to a lack of access to preventive healthcare services in rural areas as well as cultural taboos surrounding sexual health education. With improved access to healthcare services and better public education around sexual health issues, Afghanistan could reduce its STD rate and improve overall public health outcomes.

The STD rate in Brazil is 31,745.5 per 100,000 people, making it the fifth-highest STD rate country in the world. Brazil has seen an alarming increase in the rate of sexually transmitted diseases in recent years. In response, the Brazilian government has implemented a number of measures to counteract this growing epidemic, including providing free condoms and recommending regular testing for high-risk individuals. Unfortunately, Brazil's high rates of poverty and inequality mean that many people are unable to access or afford these services and treatment options. In addition to this, the stigma surrounding STDs can make it difficult for those affected by them to seek out medical help without fear of discrimination or judgment.

The Dominican Republic has an STD rate of 24,884.1 per 100,000 people, ranking the country forty-seventh in the world. The prevalence of STDs in the Dominican Republic is largely due to a lack of sexual education and awareness about risk factors, as well as limited access to healthcare resources. To address this issue and reduce the prevalence of STDs in the country, public health initiatives have been implemented to raise awareness about sexual health and provide resources for diagnosis and treatment. Additionally, efforts have been made to provide better access to contraception, which can help prevent unwanted pregnancies as well as minimize the risk of infections.

Thailand has an STD rate of 24,708.8 cases per 100,000 people, putting the country in forty-ninth place in the world for this metric. There are a number of contributing factors to this issue, such as the prevalence of sex work, high levels of drug use, and poor healthcare access in rural areas. Additionally, many young people in Thailand lack comprehensive sex education which leaves them vulnerable to infection by STDs like syphilis, gonorrhea, and HIV/AIDS. To combat this issue, the Thai government has taken steps to improve access to healthcare services for those affected by STDs, including free testing and treatment at government hospitals.
